Ballestas Island and Nazca lines 2 days / 1 night

A coastal department of central Peru, with large desert areas and several fertile oasis valleys. In this area developed the pre-Inca civilization of NAZCA, renowned for the enigmatic gigantic lines and geometric as well as zoomorphic figures of traced and drawn upon the surface of the desert, which can only be fully viewed from the air. These lines were drawn 1500 years ago. In this department is also found the Paracas National Wildlife Reserve, home to many species of amphibious mammals and birds as well as abundant sea life. In Pisco lies a unique marine ecological sanctuary known as the Ballestas Islands, refuge for such marine wildlife as sea lions, otters, seals and marine birds like pelicans, albatrosses, several species of gulls, plovers, etc. Paracas was also the site of an important ancient civilization noted for its fine textiles and the practice of cranial deformation as well as trepanation for medicinal purposes.

Itinerary

DAY 1. LIMA – PARACAS (ISLAS BALLESTAS).

Transfer from hotel in Lima at 5:00 a.m to the bus station Cruz del Sur tourist bus service to Paracs (Pisco), upon arrival 3 hours bus jouney, transfer to the mole El Chaco where you´ll take a motorboat excursión to The Ballestas Islands (4 hours round trip).
Paracas is the best marine reserve with the highest concentration of large colonies of guano birds, pinguins, sea lions congregate.
In the afternoon we board the tourist bus to Nazca. Overnight at hotel in Nazca.

DAY 2. NAZCA LINES – LIMA.

After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the little airport, we take the flight over the famous Nazca Lines for 35 minutes, we can observe only from the air, 32 hieroglyphs of marine and terrestrial animals as well as geometric and human figures; such us a dog, an enormous monkey, a bird, a spider, a tree, that cover an area of 350 Km 2.
According to Doctor María Reiche, the figures represent the largest astronomical calendar created by a human culture. In the afternoon we´ll visit the Chauchilla cementery where skulls, mummies and pottery shards litter the desert; and then transfer to the bus station for the trip back to Lima.
