Colca Canyon 2 Days / 1 Night
Located at an altitude of 2335 meters above sea level. It is known as the “White City” due to the color of most of its buildings, constructed with White pumice Stone of volcanic origin. It possesses an extremely varied environment a desert coast, a chain of snowcapped volcanoes where the famous Misti Volcanoe lies.
It constitutes an excellent aclimatization spot for visitors travelling to higher altitudes such as Puno or Cusco. The main attraction in the city are: the Churches of Compañía, La Catedral, La Merced, The Monastery of Santa Catalina ( XVII century ) was a citadel where whose walls served as a life enclosure for the young nuns, outside of town another good attraction is The Colca Valley with its pisturesque villages and well preserved inca terraces.
Itinerary
DAY 1. AREQUIPA – CHIVAY ( COLCA CANYON).
Pick up at hotel and drive northward toward Chivay, along the way passing near the thermal baths of Yura and climbing up The Natural Reserve Salinas y Aguada Blanca of Pampa Cañahuas situated at 3800 meters above sea level, we can see Andean camels like alpacas, guanacos and vicunas.
We arrive at the pass at 4800 meters we will enjoy the magnificent landscapes with snow capped volcanoes; from the pass we descend to a short trip to Chivay 3700 m, we arrive there mid-day and check in in the hotel.
In the afternoon there is time to enjoy the hot medical springs La Calera. Overnight in the hotel.
DAY 2 CRUZ DEL CONDOR – AREQUIPA.
Very early in the morning pick up from the hotel we will go to the Cruz del Condor to appreciate the depth of the canyon and to observe the majestic flight of the Andean Condor. Returning to Chivay, we stop along the way to the traditional villages of Maca, Pinchollo, Yanque and the different archaeological areas of the ancient cultures.
When we arrive to Chivay there is time for shopping of the local artisan and food products, in the afternoon we make our journey back to Arequipa. Transfer to hotel.
